Great start to post wildfire project

We have a ton of dead pine trees (still standing) due to a wildfire. Cory was exceptionally helpful and accommodating in coming up with a plan to hopefully grow some mushrooms. This is the start of the experiment, Reishi plugs in a Douglas Fir log. Everything went smooth and the plugs design and mycelium look great. Obviously pine isn’t it best medium but hopefully we can find something that produces, thanks Cory!

    Andrew,

Thank you for your thoughtful review! I am glad to hear that I was able to assist you in developing a plan to cultivate mushrooms on your wildfire-affected land. While pine isn't typically the ideal medium for Reishi mushrooms, your innovative approach with Douglas Fir logs is commendable. Reishi mushrooms generally thrive on hardwoods like oak or maple, but they have been successfully cultivated on various substrates, including certain softwoods.

We appreciate your initiative in exploring new methods and wish you the best with your project. Please keep us updated on your progress, and don't hesitate to reach out if you need further assistance or have any questions.

Below is an interesting article about how the Chinese bury the logs, which might help with the cold weather. They use it for heat, but I guess it is still thermoregulating both ways.
